Welcome to the ASSK campaign at Boston College.
You may ask yourself what ASSK is…
Well, its is the student movement at Boston College to get the Asian American Scholarship named after Aung San Suu Kyi.
You may ask yourself who she is and why does she deserve to have a scholarship named after…
From Amensty Internation:
“Aung San Suu Kyi, co-founded the National League for Democracy (NLD), a pro-democracy political party that sought to counter the military junta that had reigned over Myanmar since 1962. In 1990, the NLD won almost 80 percent of the parliamentary seats in a general election. Surprised at the landslide victory, the military junta refused to transfer power to Aung San Suu Kyi and the NLD, and jailed scores of political activists, including Aung San Suu Kyi.”
But what can you do?
Its really easy.
All you have to do is write a letter that explains why the Asian American scholarship needs to be named and why do you think Aung San Suu Kyi is the best candidate to be named after. Please sign it with your name, class, and date. When you finish, you can either drop it off in the Asian Caucus office in the 2nd Floor of Campanella Way or give it to one of the Asian Caucus executive board members or submit it as a GoogleDocs form.
